Wildwood Outdoor Living
Garden retreats and wellness spaces · East Sussex

Your own private retreat, at the end of the garden.

Wildwood designs and builds private garden retreats in East Sussex, made for unwinding with family and friends: saunas, cold plunge, fire pits, and the terraces and planting that tie them together. We build the groundwork ourselves. Electrics and other specialist work are carried out by registered trades that we choose and manage, so you deal with one team from first sketch to handover.

Send us a photo. We send back a design and a quote.

We use AI to draw up your first design and quote, so you can picture your garden retreat before anyone visits. It is free. If you go ahead, our own team builds it.

  1. Send a photo

Take a photo of your garden, or a few from different angles, and tell us what you have in mind: a sauna, a fire pit, a patio, a garden room.

  2. Get your preview

We send a concept image of your garden with the changes in it, a short written proposal and a quote.

  3. We confirm it on site

If you like it, we visit to measure up and check access and ground conditions, then confirm the design and the final price.

Try it with your garden

1 · Your garden photo

A clear photo taken from the house or the far end of the garden works best.

2 · What would you like?

Leave the budget blank to see entry-level and premium ranges side by side. Enter one and the design is fitted to it. Tick nothing and we suggest what your budget covers.

Your preview and estimate appear here

We draw the fire pit, sauna, cold plunge or seating onto your photo, then show a rough cost and time for entry-level and premium options, with a fitted version if you give a budget.

It is a first impression, not a quote. We confirm the design and price at a site visit.

The concept image and first quote are made with AI. They are a starting point, not a final design or a fixed price, and the image is an impression that may differ from what we build.

The retreat

Heat, cold and fire, built into your garden.

A sauna to warm up in, a cold plunge to follow it, and a fire to gather around afterwards, with the people you like best. We design the whole space and build the groundwork ourselves. Anything that needs a specialist is carried out by the right registered trade, and we manage them as part of your project.

Garden saunas and wellness hubs

The sauna, the base it sits on and the landscaping around it, designed as one calm space. Fixed electrics are carried out by a registered electrician.

Wildwood + specialist

Cold plunge

A cold plunge tub on a level base, beside your sauna or on its own. If it needs a power supply or a chiller, a registered electrician connects it.

Wildwood + specialist

Fire pits

Wood-burning fire pits set into seating areas for long evenings outdoors, well into autumn.

Garden rooms and studios

Timber garden buildings for yoga, working, studying or simply switching off, designed into the rest of the garden.

Decking and privacy

Timber and composite decks, plus boundary fencing that gives the space the privacy a retreat needs.

Outdoor kitchens

Built-in cooking and dining areas, planned by us and fitted by trades who do this every week.

Specialists, managed by Wildwood

Some work is best done by a specialist: electrics for a sauna or cold plunge, a bespoke outdoor kitchen, a treehouse. We choose the trade, brief them, schedule them around the rest of the build and check the work. Your quote shows which parts Wildwood builds and which a specialist carries out, and you only ever speak to us.

How it works

From first visit to handover.

You have one point of contact throughout, including on jobs where we bring in other trades.

  1. Enquiry

Send a photo of the garden and tell us what you want to do in it. We send a free AI-drawn preview and quote, then arrange a site visit.

  2. Design and quote

After the visit you get a confirmed design and one written quote that sets out the scope, the materials, and which parts are done by Wildwood and which by a specialist.

  3. Build

We build the groundwork and structures, and book, brief and supervise any specialist trades so the work runs in the right order.

  4. Handover

We walk you through the finished space and answer any questions about looking after it.

Designs

From sketch to site.

Every project starts as a drawing. These concept sketches show how two of our builds could be laid out. Each one sits beside the finished version once it is built.

Example project

A garden sauna and fire pit retreat, step by step.

This is how a project like this could run in an existing garden, keeping the lawn, patio, fences and most of the planting. We check dimensions, access and ground conditions on site before anything is fixed.

  1. Site check and design

We measure up, check access and ground conditions, then draw the layout so you can see it before we start.

  2. Groundwork

A properly prepared base for the sauna, and the ground prepared for a circular gravel area.

  3. Sauna Wildwood + specialist

The barrel sauna is delivered and assembled on its base. An electric sauna needs a dedicated supply, fitted by a registered electrician. A wood-fired sauna avoids that, but needs a chimney, safe clearances from anything flammable and a plan for smoke.

  4. Fire pit and seating

A metal fire pit at the centre of the gravel, with curved timber seating built around it.

  5. Paths, planting and lighting Wildwood + specialist

Stepping stones to the sauna, grasses and shrubs to settle it into the garden, and low-voltage lighting for the evenings.

  6. Handover

We walk you through the sauna, fire pit and lighting, and how to look after each of them.

Every project is priced after a site visit. Cost depends on access, ground conditions, the sauna you choose and how much of the garden is being changed.

Cold plunge, fire and outdoor cooking. You choose, we fit.

Choose the piece you want from a maker you like, or ask us for options. We deliver it, prepare the ground and set it up as part of your garden, bringing in registered trades for any fixed gas, electrical or plumbing work.

Fire pits

Wood-burning bowls and built-in fire features, set into seating and paving.

Cold plunge

Cold plunge tubs, from simple ice baths to models with a chiller, set on a level base beside your sauna or on their own.

Outdoor barbecues

Gas, charcoal and kamado-style barbecues, freestanding or built in, planned into an outdoor kitchen or dining area.

Each card will link to the supplier's own site once the supplier has agreed to be listed.

Holiday let owners

Do a sauna or fire pit lift bookings? Here is what has been published.

Hot tubs are the best-documented extra for UK holiday lets, so they set the benchmark below. Saunas and fire pits are often said to work the same way, but we could not find a published percentage for either, so we have not made one up.

FeatureNightly rateOccupancyWhat it is based on
Hot tubFor comparison +15% to 30%average daily rate +10% to 15%occupancy A 2026 analysis of UK glamping and holiday sites. Results vary with location, type of accommodation, pricing and season. The source does not say whether the occupancy figure is a relative rise or percentage points.
Sauna No figure publishedDescribed as supporting a higher rate No figure publishedNot quantified Suppliers and holiday let guides say guests see a sauna as a spa-like feature that justifies a higher rate. None gave a percentage we could trace.
Fire pit No figure publishedNot quantified No figure publishedDescribed as bringing more enquiries Hosts and suppliers say a fire pit helps a listing stand out and can bring more bookings, especially in cooler months. None gave a percentage we could trace.

Other published hot tub figures count total income instead of rate: about 33% more revenue over 12 months (Holidaycottages, reported November 2025), about 40% more a year (Sykes figures) and 45% more per booking (a hot tub supplier's own guide). They measure different things, so do not add them to the figures above.

These are averages from industry press and supplier sites, several of which sell hot tubs. Treat them as a guide, not a promise for any one property, and check them against your own booking history before you spend money. Sources: Modern Campground (hot tub glamping, 2026), Royal Tubs (citing Holidaycottages), Group Accommodation (citing Sykes data), and a 2026 commercial hot tub supplier guide. Figures gathered 12 October 2026.
